Am I turning into a grandma?

Howdy Reader!

I’ve mentioned this a couple of times on the show and podcast, but I’ve been fascinated by the process of creativity and how people can lean into habits and tools that can help you be more creative.

Last week, Conor and I went through some of the most impactful books we read, and many of those had to do with creativity.

One underlying current in the research that I’ve found is this: unplugging is one of the biggest ways to boost your creativity.

A recent trend is leaning into so-called “granny-core” hobbies to unwind.

It seems that many people, especially Gen Z, are embracing old school “grandma hobbies” like knitting, gardening, needlepoint, and birdwatching to unplug from algorithms and screen time.

Nostalgia plays a big part as well.

People are craving tactile, screen-free hobbies because digital life can be exhausting, and analog activities give you calm, creativity, and connection.

I know that a lot of “creators” are also “makers,” but a lot of the time, we really don’t talk about it.

That’s why my friend Katie Fawkes and I started a new live show called “The Maker’s Table.”

The whole point of the show is to slow down, spend some time doing something with our hands, relaxing, and spending time with friends.

So if you’d like to take a chill pill, with no agenda other than crafting together, we’d love to see you at our new show, which will be streamed LIVE on Fridays at 1 p.m. Central.

We’d also love for you to
subscribe to our new channel. Starting a new YouTube channel is really hard, and we need your help to get the word out!

So grab your favorite analog craft and join us on Friday!

See ya around the interwebs,

-Jeff

Howdy Reader! I know. It’s Friday, and if your week's been anything like mine, the ole’ brain cells are a little bit fried this morning. So…. Here’s the TL;DR version. Conor and I are doing a show today all about the top books that shaped how we think. You can watch it LIVE here! It’s really happening! A NEW show all for creators and makers. Katie Fawkes and I will be doing a community-style show called The Maker’s Table, where she crochets, and I wood-carve LIVE, and we chat with friends....

Howdy Reader! My friend Lou Mongello left a career in law to build a business around something he genuinely loves. Not as a side hustle. Not as a hobby. As a real company. Through his WDW Radio podcast and community, he’s built events, books, live experiences, and multiple revenue streams, inside a very specific niche. That didn’t happen by accident. This Friday on Creator News Live, Lou joins us to talk about what actually turns content into income. We’ll dig into: How to think about...

Howdy Reader! Listen, I know it’s weird to promote another person’s podcast in your own email…BUTThis is an exception I think you’ll thank me for. My friend Paul Gowder of PowWows.com and PaulGowder.com was just featured on Social Media Examiner’s podcast. They must have figured out what we’ve known for a long time…Paul is a master when it comes to email. We’ve had Paul on quite a bit on Creator News Live, and he’s always delivered, so I wanted to make sure you didn’t miss this episode since...
