Finding a place where everyone knows your name...

Howdy Reader!

Remember Cheers? That cozy bar where "everybody knows your name"?

Well, something fascinating is happening on the internet right now. The exodus from big social media has begun, with people seeking out smaller, more meaningful online spaces where genuine connections flourish.

And I'm all in.

Some of my favorite moments online aren't on the major platforms - they're in Dave Jackson's live School of Podcasting show on Saturdays or hanging out with Lou Mongello's WDW Radio group on Wednesday nights. (Fun fact: Lou's community is so strong, he got me on a BOAT in the middle of the ocean!)

The Verge just published a thought-provoking article about this shift, and here's what's really interesting:

  • 42% of folks think Google is getting LESS useful (I've switched to Perplexity - have you tried it?)
  • 60% view social media negatively.
  • Get this: only 1% of community members create 80% of the content (if you're a creator, you're in the top 1%!)
  • Nearly HALF of people prefer communities that don't allow AI-generated content.

But here's what really caught my attention...

Almost everyone agrees: the future belongs to smaller, purpose-driven communities. Places where real connections happen. Where authenticity trumps algorithms.

That's exactly why I'm rebranding our Friday show from "Social Media News Live" to "Creator News Live" in March. (Eagle-eyed viewers might have already spotted the change on YouTube!) Social Media has such a negative perception; I think the show will be more attractive with a name change.

Speaking of communities that matter - Mondays and Fridays have become my favorite days of the week. Why? Because that's when I get to hang out with amazing creators like you, either in my mastermind group or during our live shows.

So...

  • What online communities keep you coming back?
  • Are you part of too many communities?

I'd love to know what you think.

Hit reply and let me know. I read every response!

See ya around the interwebs,

-Jeff

Howdy Reader! Ever feel like you're doing ALL the productivity hacks but still spinning your wheels? You're not alone. I've been thinking a lot about productivity lately as I prepare to speak at Social Media Marketing World in San Diego this week. And let me tell you, nothing tests your productivity systems quite like getting ready for a conference! Speaking of testing things... I recently discovered something cool at the Newsletter Marketing Summit in Austin that I HAD to share with you....

Howdy Reader! Ever wish you could clone yourself just to get everything done? (Without the whole evil twin subplot, of course!) I get it. As creators, we're constantly juggling multiple tasks, wearing ALL the hats, and somehow trying to maintain our sanity in the process. That's exactly why I'm excited about this week's show. We're digging into the world of automation and systems with someone who's mastered the art of doing more by doing less. Meet Joe Casabona, the wizard behind the curtain...

Howdy Reader! Listen, I try not to get too excited about every new AI tool that comes along (there are about 47 launched every day, am I right? 😅) But this one? This one's different. Google just quietly dropped what might be the biggest AI image creation breakthrough of the year - and the best part? It's completely FREE. I know what you're thinking... "Jeff, we've already got DALL-E and Midjourney. What's the big deal?" Here's the thing - this isn't just another image generator. This is...
