Howdy Reader! If you’re anything like me, you're slowly walking up from the football and tryptophan hangover from overindulging in yesterday’s Thanksgiving festivities. If you’re reading this from somewhere other than the U.S. I hope you had a productive Thursday with many, fewer calories. And now, the Christmas season is upon us! Fun fact, “Jingle Bells” wasn’t always a Christmas favorite. Initially composed in 1857 as “One Horse Open Sleigh,” James Pierpont wrote it as a Thanksgiving Day song. Howdy Reader! Tomorrow’s episode of Creator News Live is a conversation I wish I’d heard much earlier in my creator journey. True confession: My high school guidance counselor said I had a learning disability in math, so I should probably be a mechanic or funeral director and stay away from computers. (Worst advice ever! Look at me now, Mr. Gordon!)So, needless to say, math was never my strong suit, and it has caused me a lot of anxiety during my creator and entrepreneurial journey.I have a...
Howdy Reader! What a week. If you’re in half of the U.S. right now, you’ve probably been hunkered down with the winter storm. Here in East Texas, we didn’t lose power (a miracle, because around here a strong sneeze can knock it out). The internet flickered, then came back, so we curled up with some good books. It was WONDERFUL! Have you ever thought about writing your OWN book? Maybe you thought, “I should write a book,” then immediately talked yourself out of it. Do books still matter when...
Howdy Reader! A night (actually morning) in the museum, anyone? I’m sitting down with my good friend Amy Kehs, a PR expert who’s spent decades helping museums (little ole museums like the Smithsonian! I know, right?) stop getting ignored and start building real community around what they do. And no, this isn’t a “museum-only” conversation. We’ll be digging into: Why getting attention feels harder than ever (and what to do about it) Where marketing hits a wall, and how PR plays a different...
