He got tired of waiting, so he built it himself

Howdy Reader!

There is a thing your setup needs that nobody has made yet. You have thought about it. You probably even know roughly what it would cost.

Doc Rock went and made his.

This Friday we're sitting down with Doc Rock, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Ecamm and co-host of The Flow. He spent years traveling around teaching podcasting, and everywhere he went, people asked him about pop filters for their microphones. The only decent one shipped from the Netherlands, thirty dollars for the foam and sixty dollars to ship it, and it did not even fit the two microphones most people actually own.

Here's one of the reasons I wanted to get Doc on the show. He funded the whole thing without Kickstarter and without a crowdfunding platform, pre-selling it straight to his own audience. And his manufacturer turned out to be his old radio program director, who now lives in China making Funko Pops.

His product is not your product, but the strategy is the same.

Paul and I are going to be asking him...

→ What pushes a teacher into manufacturing, and what it costs to find out
→ How to fund a physical product without a crowdfunding platform
→ What actually happens in the cash gap between pre-sale and delivery
→ What he learned rebuilding a 127-episode show live on camera

Come watch live and put your questions in the chat.

Join us live this Friday, August 28 at 10 AM Central

See ya there!

P.S. Doc's whole point is that you should build things you actually own, and that starts with not doing the same work twice. Ecamm's Dual Mode records horizontal and vertical at the same time, so one session gives you YouTube, Shorts, and social. It is what we use to produce Creator News Live every single week. Howdy ! I have a folder on my Mac called "someday." It has subfolders. And is color-coded. That's how you know it's serious. You've got one too, probably. Maybe yours is a note called "ideas," untouched since 2019, sitting right above that reminder to back up your hard drive. Mine sat there for four years, giving me the side-eye every time I scrolled past. Then AI gave me some hours back, and three things came out of that folder in the last two months. Alive. Blinking at the light. 1. The CNL...

Howdy Reader! Here is a stat that may surprise you... Online content is up 57 percent since generative AI showed up. Everybody got the same tools on the same day, and we all did the obvious thing with them, which is make more. So it is worth asking why everything you publish seems not to work as well as it used to This Friday we're sitting down with Angie Callen, the founder of The Modern Coach. She is a former engineer turned award-winning executive coach, author, and speaker; she wrote a...

Howdy Reader! I found an old notebook last week from a conference I went to a few years back. Three pages of notes. Eleven pages of doodles. One extremely confident drawing of an armadillo wearing a cowboy hat. I could not tell you what that session was about. I could not tell you who presented it, but I could describe that armadillo to a police sketch artist. I paid to be at that conference. I flew there. I wore the lanyard. Somewhere in that room, a very qualified person was explaining...
