I was trying to explain how I blanked out on something by comparing it to a dial tone, and I got met with a sea of blank stares from the younger folks in the audience. It hit me; dial tones are now vintage! These days, some people have never even heard that distinctive "beeeeeeep" when picking up a landline phone. That moment made me realize how easy it is to miss the mark when we assume everyone shares our same reference points.
